Rant - My "Top Seven Halloween Songs" List for 2011

Show Host Kurtis's picture

First off a disclaimer: To prevent the fiasco we had last year from Harry being a pain in the ass, I would like to first define the word "song" in my list. Merriam-Webster.com's definition as "a short musical composition of words and music" is what I will be using to qualify my list this year. So Harry can go lick my candy corn with his fugues and instrumentals. Also, I didn't want to use any of the songs I included on last year's list. So, all that being said, here goes...

7. People Are Strange - Echo and the Bunnyman
Yes, this is a pretty true-to-the-original cover of the original Doors version...but I think this one is pretty damn cool.

6. Time Warp - Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack
Its just a jump to the left.

5. This Is Halloween – Marilyn Manson
Manson contributed this creepy cover to the Nightmare Revisited album, which features covers of the music from the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack.

4. Pet Cemetery – Ramones
This song by the Ramones was the title track of the 1989 Stephen King film, Pet Cemetary. I was so sad to see Herman Munster get the axe.

3. Psycho Killer – Talking Heads
Talking Heads front man, David Byrne, once said that movie villains were “much more fascinating than the good guys.” I first heard this song long after it was released. I remember thinking "whoah."

2. Bark at the Moon - Ozzy Ozbourne
This was done back when he was still understandable.

1. Weird Science - Oingo Boing
I used "Dead Man's Party" last year...what else was I to do?
